[LUG] Managing dual screens on a laptop

I've been trying to get mergedfb support working with my T23's
supersavage for years, but have found out today that the mergedfb driver
was buggy and is now so old it will require much hacking to get it
working with a recent version of xorg.

The current driver supports DRI, XRandR, and Xinerama. However, since
XRandR and Xinerama conflict I have to choose between them. At the
moment it's fine, because I only have one screen. However, I'm going to
be getting a second screen soon. I very rarely use a projector, and if I
do I can just start a second X server with the right size. So I can
manage without resizing the screens, but being a laptop the second
screen isn't always going to be available.

So what do I do when I disconnect the second screen?
Does anyone know of a program that will move all windows from the second
screen to the first screen or a command line method that I can write a
script for?
Better still would be a way of telling KDE or X to not even let the
mouse move into the second screen, but I think that is unlikely.

Even more unlikely (but even better)- is there some way of taking
advantage of KDE's virtual desktops for this? I always have 4 of them.
What I'm thinking of is having the two screens share the same virtual
desktop space. So I can set each screen to view any one of the 4. If the
second screen isn't available it doesn't matter, because the primary
screen can view all of them.

Anyone got any other suggestions?

Thanks
Simon
