Ok
now bought a different router (ADDON ARM8200) and some progress

now
I can ping router
However when I try http://192.168.1.1 (the router home page) I get
"Connection Timed out" after after a few minutes

Same with telnet,ftp and wget

nmap 192.168.1.1 shows 21 23 and 80 open

Horrible feeling that may be silently rejecting if browser is not
exploder

any one any clue?
