I've posted this to a 9500 forum, but I heard that some people here have experience with this device, so I thought I'd see if anyone here might be able to help me... Hello everyone. I'm thinking of buying a 9500, but there seem to be a lot of differing opinions, and information is not as clear or easy to find as it would be if it was a PDA (why do phone manufacturers never give clear specs?). I've currently got a Sharp Zaurus SL-6000L, which is nice, but I hardy use it, mainly because I can't find a case for it, and it's worth 320 pounds. The most annoying thing about it is that it's portrait, so I have to have the stupid screen protector, and the keyboard isn't as good as it would be if it was landscape. I can get a 9500 for less than 200 pounds. So... 1. I know it's got an MMC slot, but will it use SD cards? 2. How well do the PDA and phone parts interact? If I make a calendar appointment on the PDA, can I make the reminder go off on the phone? Can I read and write SMS on either one? 3. Can I control the MP3 player from the phone part? That would be very useful. 4. Are pop-ports universal? (Is it going to be compatible with parts for my 3120? I've got an HDB-4 and a DKU-5) 5. Can I remap the keyboard (I type dvorak)? 6. Can I get some command-line Linux programs for it? I really would like bash/awk/grep/sed/sort/uniq/vim/ssh, etc 7. Can I get a dual-sim for it? I want one for voice/sms and one for data. 8. What is sync like with Linux? I'd use wifi or bluetooth. I want to be able to transfer files, appointments, contacts, todo, sms and email. 9. Does it share files using FTP, SMB, NFS or something? 10. Can I get servers like http, ftp or ssh for it? 11. Can I write my own software for it without huge difficulty (in C/C++)? 12. Is it possible to write to the ROM? i.e. flash it myself with my own OS? 13. Will it make use of a bluetooth mouse and/or keyboard? 14. Is it really as slow as people say it is? Even with the latest ROM? (Then again, my Zaurus takes several minutes to connect to wifi and load a web browser) 15. Anything else I should know? Do you think that getting a 9500 would be stupid? Anyone know if there will be a new one soon? What about the handyPC?
