Hi, I'm quite an inexperienced LINUX User who's sill weaning myself off Windows (as you'll probably note from this email being OE based!). For a Hard Disc Install I've found XANDROS to be the best chocie since it gives me the ability to get everything up and running wihtout too much effort and gives me a 'working' system to study (I've tried Slackware and MANDRAKE but always got to the point where I couldn't quite get the installation going); also I have quite aancient hardware and this Distro runs best on such hardware. I've learnt more abut Runlevels, Bottloaders etc from studying my XANDROS setup then reading a heap of articles but then that could be because I a have a low concerntartion threshold (i.e. Thick!). The one problem I've found to date with XANDROS is it dosen't like the Marvell Yukon Built-In Network card you find on some motherboards (but it does point that out in it's HW compatability list); this may have changed with Version 4 (I've got V3).. If you are looking for a LIVE CD I would recommend SUSE 10.1 as that is the most 'complete' LIVE CD I've found (although to be fair I've not tried Knoppix or the like). Regards, Dave. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Neil Winchurst" <neil@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <list@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, August 21, 2006 1:41 PM Subject: [LUG] Kubuntu etc > My brother now lives within a mile.
