Re: [LUG] Promoting GNU/Linux in 2006

Sounds a good idea, perhaps to co-incide with the launch of Vista, or perhaps the day MS drop all their nice users who are using Xp in the deepend by stopping support for XP, which we could pick up on, it may make MS change heart but by which time we may have converted people!

Quote from vnunet
The software firm had set the release of the final version of IE7 no later than the summer of 2006 <http://www.vnunet.com/2126757> and promised that Vista would be finished in time <http://www.vnunet.com/2127160> for the 2006 holiday shopping season.

so whatever that means, that gives us a good few months to Push Linux and open source / free software generally

Is there a software install day etc this year, there is software freedom day,

Hi Everyone,

Having "recovered" from Christmas, and realised that we are already 1 week through the new year (so a bit late for new year resolutions) I would like to challenge all of us to the big question "what are we (the D&C GNU/Linux Community) going to do to promote GNU/Linux & Free software in 2006?". Personally I'm fed up of hearing that 200? will be the year of GNU/Linux etc... etc... Lets just make GNU/Linux mainstream at least in Devon & Cornwall.

My suggestion is a computer fair (free software orientated if possible), but this needs sponsorship of some sort and I'm the last person you would want to organise one of these events.

Ideas in an email please.

Tom.
