That's a simplistic view of the issue - don't be tempted to think of trademarks in the same light as patents. See many discussions on the differences between copyright, trademarks and patents. Clearly Richard Stallman considers copyright a good thing (provided the length of protection is within reasonable limits) and patents on software to be a very, very, very BAD thing (under all circumstances). Trademarks are different again.
