I suspect it isn't, having handed out CD's that set up a Maths quiz webserver under Linux at a LUG meeting several years ago without any admin intervention in one of seven different languages, it also allowed for class marks to be gathered, and was extensible. Might not have been quite usable from the bootable CD, but it was certainly good enough for evaluation purposes (IIRC some of the graphics software wasn't on the bootable CDs meaning some of the example exercises were incomplete on the CD version - but that is what Sarge is for!). The CD also sets up a terminal server, allowing the applications to be deployed from a central server to thin clients. But that is probably the way to deploy Linux in schools (indeed most desktops probably want to be thin client if the technology for it is suitably mature - i.e. almost anything but MS Windows). Of course Exeter meetings are a long way from the Isles of Scilly :( The CDs were the OFSET FREEDUC CDs, it appears that OFSET now have UNESCO funding for producing these CDs and the content is likely to have changed in the intervening releases. However you can download a CD ISO from here; http://www.ofset.org/articles/29 Or join OFSET to get a physical CD with French documentation (?), and no doubt other benefits of membership. They now do two CDs, one aimed at Primary level. They also maintain a database of other educational software. *********************** Note for Tom (the older), obviously enough difference to justify another meeting and another talk about FREEDUC at schools in Torbay area *********************** However I think teachers need to also share related lesson/cirriculum material, as few teachers will make the effort if it means more work, but if it means less work.... Mark E is probably better placed to discuss other sources of Educational Software. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Comment: Encryption...is a powerful defensive weapon for free people.
