Re: [LUG] Converting to LVM?

Hi all.

Just noticed Robin's message about LVM on Linux (root-raid, particularly) and it got me thinking...

I will shortly be covering LVM in one of my classes and I was wondering whether it is possible to "upgrade" a Linux system to LVM in-situ? Kind of like "upgrading to dynamic disks" under Windows?

This is just a ponder...

Cheers.

Hi Grant,

I don't know about upgrading an existing disk but I added a second hard drive to one of my computers and partitioned it partly for M$ Win 98 and partly for SuSE Linux. Using LVM enable me to slice up the Linux partition (formatted reiserfs) into parts that I've been able to add at different mount points as needed. I use the second drive for data and temp cd images so that if, by accident, I trash my root partition I've still got all the home directories etc.

HTH
