BTW: It just turned up in Debian testing. I got my first experience
of gimp2 yesterday, and definitely a step in the right direction.

Matt won't like it because he thinks every font must have bold and
italic versions - I guess we could filter out those that don't from
the menu if that will make him happier ;)

It doesn't do 16 bits per channel colour.

The mistake was to make it too much like photoshop, then people
compare it to photoshop, rather than consider what it is and what it
does on its own merits. There are some professional shops using free
software for print production work, track them down and quiz them if
you want to know what they do.
