As a CDR, naturally, they are no more than coasters now. Giving away
re-writeable media isn't sensible/affordable/efficient so don't waste
discs
or money on copies that you cannot distribute effectively. Just do what
you
need at the time.

On the other hand, with the price of blank media from computer fairs being
so low now, if CD labels relating to the LUG and/or GNU/Linux could be
printed they would last as advertising media long after the software on the
CDs themselves has become obsolete. They will always be a reminder to
anyone using them of GNU/Linux. Something as simple as a student booze-up
(No.. students don't drink.. do they? ;)) could be a source of new converts
in that way if even one of them picks up his/her coaster and says to the
host "Oy what's Linux?"

Besides there is always the market of people with older hardware who won't
want the latest distros simply because on their old kit it will run like a
snail through wet concrete.

Cheers,

Julian "the glass is half full" Hall :)
