ok, for many applications these issues are not issues, however they might be.

mac laptops aren't actually built to the quality you might think, but the more 
recent os is great, but I have to question whether a linux nerd will be happy 
with a mac, which is a different animal theologically.

go the second hand route, more than fast enough for the things that laptops 
are any use for anyway, can recommend paul dirkin at itdealers, hes a good 
guy and his stuff is properly refurbished and excellent value for money
