Hi there I hope this is a trivial problem and that you all will be able to think "gor blimey, it's obvious..." Anyhow I have set up a HP Officejet T45 with the relevant drivers. It's a combo fax/scanner/printer and there is linux drivers for it. When I set it up I was able to print the A4 Postscript test page with no problem and as a scanner using sane/xsane it works fine. However since then I've not been able to use it as a printer. If there's nothing in the queue it says "lp0 Officejet T45", but send anything to the queue it says the parallel port is busy and will check again in 30 seconds. Nothing prints, though I can still use the scanner functions. I've looked on the net and people seem to think this is a CUPS problem. I'm not so sure as I stop CUPS and still get the same message. I've not found anything on line which is more helpful than "eventually I re-installed it and the problem went away". Well I've done that.(I've not been able to print the A4 test page again). If anyone has any ideas I'd be eternally grateful and so on. Please help... Simon
Hi Simon, I'm affraid I can't be of much help other than to say that I've been having similar problems with an HP PSC. Apparently the problems are due to the fact that the printer side of things uses one "driver" (which doesn't support scanning) and the scanner uses another one (which should support printing, but seems to be broken)... or something like that. There's an HP sponsored sourceforge project all about the "multifunction" range of devices: http://hpoj.sourceforge.net/ As a matter of curiosity, which distro are you using? Under Mandrake 10 I managed to get the PSC to print once, before I attempted scanning, and now it doesn't, but it scans well! However, under Knoppix, I could print nicely but couldn't scan at all. Hope this helps a little.
