As David says /etc/modules, but if you are installing Debian on DELL
servers....

http://wiki.osuosl.org/display/LNX/Debian+on+Dell+Servers

Have an ISO to help, with a 2.4.26 kernel with all the drivers required
for DELL's server range.

The guy who put this together isn't a module fan (they are a pain for
things required to boot), and you may well end up rebuilding from the
config file they supply if you need extra hardware, but it does get you
from "blank system" to "apt + networking + SCSI/RAID", which with Debian
is the hardest bit done, and a .config to start with if your new to
kernel building or just impatient.

He also reports 2.6 basically works (with DELL hardware - various), so
expect the 2.6 ISO to be coming to a server near you.

I don't think Debian really cares what kernel you run these days, indeed
it doesn't have to be Linux these days any compatible kernel will do.

Anyway mostly an issue if you have weird RAID configs, but useful to
know I think.
