RE: [LUG] RE: SuSe 9.1 and Sony

Hi Alan,

I've tried Knoppix 3.4 as you suggested and indeed it does work! :) I
noticed during the boot process that it set the mouse to /dev/input/mice
which I found interesting because the same device path in Mandrake 10
refused to budge. I'm going to try Peanut Linux 9.6 and see how that goes.
Sooner or later I'll find a distro on a 2.6 kernel that behaves :)

If not I'll try installing Knoppix to the HD. I take it that isn't too
taxing? ;)

Kind regards,

Julian

In case you're wondering, the reason for all this hassle is to get a

the trackpad works with. However since it is a documented fact that
the
2.6.x kernels have had the input devices messed around (/dev/psaux no
longer
works in user space) maybe I ought to just try an earlier distro like
Mandrake 9.1, which I already have on CD?

Hi,
the Suse 9.1 personal is a "live" cd image, I tried one the other day,
and it froze on boot anyway.
I got a knoppix 3.4 live cd instead, and that has an experimental 2.6
kernel, which seems to work fine with my Sony Vaio laptop. It is
possible to do a hard drive install of the knoppix live cd but it's
"not supported"
