Re: [LUG] Computer shop & Linux - progress.

Hi Andrew

What's the name of the shop, please? Hopefully be ready to build a new Linux box!

Has anybody any suggestions for hardware?

Rich

I started a thread a while back asking for ideas to promote GNU/Linux through small computer shops in our region. The Computer Shop in Plymouth has now evaluated many distros of GNU/Linux with the intention of installing on as many machines as possible, new and second user.

Simon, the shop manager, has reported quite a lot of interest from customers that saw Knoppix (a live GNU/Linux CD) running on a display PC. He expects sales to improve due to being able to sell PCs as a complete working system, without customers having to pay extra for an OS. I hope eventually these customers will realise the benefits of GNU software and not just the low cost.

I think we may be at the stage where we can add the shop to the 'Linux friendly' list on the DCLUG.

At least three of the staff are taking an interest in GNU/Linux, they were able to discuss certain topics, including running Apache web server on a headless box.

Andrew
