-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 1. Developers of a free software project put out a request for help on the project mailing list. One item on the list is help with the documentation. 2. Offers of help received. 3. Ideas and requirements discussed openly and missing / out-of-date files identified. 4. Debian user looks for the missing or out-of-date files and finds that a helpful Debian developer has already written them all! Lessons: 1. At least one developer on every project should develop using Debian :-))) (OK, as many developers as possible should use the widest possible variety of distros) 2. Freedom encourages contribution. 3. Requests for help can produce unexpected benefits. 4. Free software shortens the development cycle because the developers do not need to identify the problem before a solution becomes available - anyone can see that the files were missing and anyone with appropriate skills can plug the gap. 5. Large, loosely organised groups (such as those based solely around mailing lists) can provide new perspectives and new avenues that are invisible to a small group of developers. - -- Neil Williams ============= http://www.codehelp.co.uk/ http://www.dclug.org.uk/ http://www.isbn.org.uk/ http://sourceforge.net/projects/isbnsearch/ http://www.biglumber.com/x/web?qs=0x8801094A28BCB3E3 -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.4 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFAM+NUiAEJSii8s+MRAv5OAKDCR5N/rBu1abviiVar+nfTQw/t6wCcCQPk lvMaqqCYqkBskg/Tbo60GJc= =M40E -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG Mail majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxx with "unsubscribe list" in the message body to unsubscribe.
