Seems there's a fair bit of legal red tape that stops Uni's etc just giving old stuff away. Signing a disclaimer would clear the supplier should you execute/injure yourself, but think there's also an issue that the government has paid for the stuff therefore expects something for it should it change hands. It'd be nice if at the very least old machines could be donated to the less well off students.
