Becuse IE does this translation, people can generate pages that work in IE but in any other browser will result in broken images/links/etc.

The MS webpage creator tools ( I'm not familiar with them to name them) are likely to use backslashes to tie people to IE. Presumably these backslashes are not HTML compliant and so Mozilla isn't going to support them.

Suggestion for search engines (Google for example); should check webpage content for these backslashes and indicate these in the search results, maybe as an option.
