I need to set up an HP 1500 Laserjet on a network. This printer comes with a USB connection only. A USB Jetdirect Print Server costs in the region of £150 (if you can find one in stock).

Does it have to be an HP print server - there seem to be a few others around at a lower price (£50-£80).

If not, anyone got any recommendations?

I must admit, I haven't googled yet so there may even be a distro specifically setup for this.....

You might want to look at e-smith which is a Red Hat based system set up out of the box as a small office server with Samba etc. I have run a HP USB printer off this in the past.

Cheers,

Pete
