Does this let me manage remote systems that don't have any X client stuff on, although I suspect I managed to pick some of those libraries up by mistake in the install? > Goto www.freshrpms.net....you`ll find apt with RPM support. > > Email me and I`ll send you my `sources.list` file if you want. Currently the bit of APT I'm missing is that having chosen a public data source I can get all critical security updates in 2 commands, no registration, no messing around, and it will respect ENV variables settings for the http proxy and such like. I didn't need to patch Debian to make it work either :( The dependency stuff is not an issue, virtually everything important is being built from source, although I guess I could patch source RPM's, but in any case this wouldn't resolve the non-obvious dependencies (those introduced by the patch) anyway. Build from source is necessary because of how most things are being customised, although I suspect some of the packages (proftp?) are modular enough in structure that we could use RPM's if they were available for the modules we want - (they generally aren't). Having applied over 5 patches, and one hand edit, to qmail source to get the functionality I'm after I'm beinning to wonder at whether it is a good choice of MTA for people with demanding requirements. Anyway I thought one of the big gains of free software is not having to go through registration hoops and the like just to do the essentials. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQE/m71KGFXfHI9FVgYRAvdZAKDXTAErNrnVMC4ivxoPk+OaUoHt3QCeKVUd JVNOH1fGfM2OwbgPuwVMVLU= =RhMu -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG Mail majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxx with "unsubscribe list" in the message body to unsubscribe.
