Which version of 4 in Mandrake 9?

The 4.1.0 documentation suggests probems with the SiS630 code.

Seems you either want to upgrade to 4.3.0 or downgrade to 3.3.6.

Since 3.3.6 SVGA is properly supported within the Debian packaging
framework, probably easier to go this way, unless you want to try
unstable. You may be able to edit the apt configuration to prefer a
later Xfree86, but I found this messed up my dependencies.

Failing that fix the video memory at 4MB is the only suggestion in the
documentation, but doesn't sound promising to me.

Various people have also suggested using the VESA framebuffer, but I
wouldn't go that way unless 3.3.6 is totally unresponsive to attempts to
configure it.

I still have an open bug with the Xfree86 developers, I suspect they are
swamped :(
