Well they were training Civil servants not sheep herds, although I fear
you stereotype Afghanistan too much.

My hippy friends assure me Afghanistan was a beautiful country well on
the way to development before the King was deposed and the country
started to unravel in the 70's. Being as it was a stopping off point on
their trips to find a guru, or whatever they were doing.

I believe they have more goats than sheep.

I suspect less culture shock than when they had to face Soviet helicopters.
