[LUG] Wine and Mandrake 9.1

Mandrake9.1 has errors in the configuration of Wine that lead to these error
messages:

Warning: L"/usr/bin/wine.bin" not accessible from a configured DOS drive
(repeated ad infinitum)
fixme:ntdll:RtlNtStatusToDosError no mapping for 0001869f

The fix isn't realistic via /etc/wine/config as the fault lies deeper in the
Mandrake RPM configurator.

Mandrake9.1 uses these RPM's:

[neil@xxxxx neil]# rpm -qa | grep wine
wine-20030115-4mdk
libwine1-20030115-4mdk
wine-utils-20030115-4mdk
libwine1-devel-20030115-4mdk

Updated RPM's are available (I got mine from the latest LinuxFormat DVD
LXF42D): [http://www.linuxformat.co.uk]

[root@xxxxx neil]# ls /mnt/cdrom/Magazine/WINE/Mandrake/
wine-20030408-3mdk.i586.rpm
libwine1-20030408-3mdk.i586.rpm
wine-utils-20030408-3mdk.i586.rpm
libwine1-devel-20030408-3mdk.i586.rpm
wine-20030408-3mdk.src.rpm

(The src RPM isn't needed for a working installation.)

Simply uninstall the 20030115 RPM's:
[root@xxxxx neil]# rpm -e wine-utils
[root@xxxxx neil]# rpm -e libwine1 wine
warning: /etc/wine/config saved as /etc/wine/config.rpmsave

(Note: remove libwine1 and wine together to prevent dependency hell)

The new RPM's install easily and work first time. (For me, at least).

[root@xxxxx neil]# rpm -i
/mnt/cdrom/Magazine/WINE/Mandrake/wine-20030408-3mdk.i586.rpm
/mnt/cdrom/Magazine/WINE/Mandrake/libwine1-20030408-3mdk.i586.rpm
[root@xxxxx neil]# rpm -i
/mnt/cdrom/Magazine/WINE/Mandrake/wine-utils-20030408-3mdk.i586.rpm
[root@xxxxx neil]# rpm -i
/mnt/cdrom/Magazine/WINE/Mandrake/libwine1-devel-20030408-3mdk.i586.rpm

(Again, install libwine1 and wine together.)

I now have the installation I need to finally install the few remaining
Windows applications onto my ext2 filesystem and blitz that FAT forever.
(The applications, BTW, are tax return related and aren't available for Linux
yet.)
