LOL.  I seem to have made the problem ten times worse than it actually
was.  I managed to compile up the examples after correcting the braces
(without thinking, oh the braces aren't there THATS the problem..) and
then tried to reason a completely different issue that I personally had
experienced a while back (I once assumed that the gcc suite would work
out C++ from C based on the file extension cpp ...).  Maybe I should
have just gone to sleep. ;)
