I didn't enjoy that sort of thing when I was paid for it. Closest I have so far is "geektalkd", a Perl script that implements basic functions of a chat room. Can be slung up in a few seconds flat - minimalist but also adaptable as the parser can be reloaded dynamically, and the code is all Perl (so quick to modify). Download, untar, install, geektalkd -p 10000, telnet localhost 10000 It does ask for username, and domain, but I can hack the Perl to drop the domain question. I'm thinking now about creating captured accounts and running maybe ytalkd, as the geektalkd is line mode, and I think I need something curses based.
