Thanks, I may take a look, but Java is definitely second choice
here -- although I'm a big Java fan I don't want to explain to
random foreigners on expensive phone calls how to install Java
for their web browser. I didn't enjoy that sort of thing when I
was paid for it.

Closest I have so far is "geektalkd", a Perl script that
implements basic functions of a chat room. Can be slung up in a
few seconds flat - minimalist but also adaptable as the parser
can be reloaded dynamically, and the code is all Perl (so quick
to modify).

Download, untar, install, geektalkd -p 10000, telnet localhost 10000

It does ask for username, and domain, but I can hack the Perl to
drop the domain question.

I'm thinking now about creating captured accounts and running
maybe ytalkd, as the geektalkd is line mode, and I think I need
something curses based.

 Simon
