The tools for 2.2 kernels were part of Beowolf, but they are in the kernel since 2.4.7 I believe. > (I assume no-one would put the same IP > address on different nic's?) Common practice with some load balancers at ISPs to have multiple servers with the same IP address - makes me cringe as well - guess it makes DR easy ;-) But yes if the solution is at layer 2, you apply 1 IP address to all NICs. Seems the magic phrase is "bonding", similar to ISDN channel bonding. The switch obviously needs to support this - read the manual or contact the vendor - usually best to start these queries with I have a "switch XXX" and am looking to buy more but our technical guys say it has to support Linux. I have to say I got defeated by switch firmware issues last time I tried this between a NetAppliance and a third party switch, but I wouldn't be surprised to learn Linux does it better, as the switch vendors can always do Linux kernel patches if their flavour is different ;-), and that was a few years ago. The Devil is in the detail, as so often. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.1 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQE+LBCHGFXfHI9FVgYRAghPAJ9HZN9qiTBzBnp4fYoHJSKLxKjL/wCeMlL4 4/Pt4QSRvQVniIUcs7yeFWw= =eQQR -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG Mail majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxx with "unsubscribe list" in the message body to unsubscribe.
