General query now ! My interest in Linux stems from the fact that I
use the internet to trade the financial markets. The trading platforms
I HAVE TO use are "W" and also "IE" specific........."W" and "IE"
being rather unstable products I run quite a risk of
"freezes"........are there any Linux programs that will emulate/fool
the Trading Platforms into thinking they are on "W" and "IE" but with
the better stability of Linux ??

vmware is excellent - you can boot up a virtual machine inside a window on a stable linux box. i've even had win98 and winNT running simultaneously in separate windows on a mandrake machine.

the networking can be configured a couple of different ways but is basically painless - the virtual machine gets its own IP address and just appears as another machine on the network - browsers email and stuff work fine.

best of all (for your case) you can save a windows session which is open. it sort of goes into suspend mode. if a windows session crashes (unlikely!?!) you can then just open a ready running windows session - much faster than rebooting.
