I never said the old one was EIDE, it certainly looked like a
standard 2.5" drive, just the connector was slightly different.
My laptop EIDE disk also comes with a handy plastic tag (and
rubber stopper) for extracting the drive, which also looked
vital, in the purely practical sense of "how the heck will I get
it out again".

Still I've learnt what hardware I need should I ever start
installing Linux on laptops in bulk.
