A piece of the interview:

It would seem that from LXFs interview there was a good relationship
between MS and Samba.

IBM now have servers that rely on Linux for their OS, presumably these
servers would need to talk to desktops running windows and hence need to
use Samba.

Samba isn't the only thing being threatened here. Unfortunately MS Word
documents have become a very popular email attachment, there will be no
Linux software to read these.
