is cron or at  scheduling programs running.

Can anyone tell me what this means?

bash: no job control in this shell

I logged in as a user and then used su to change to root. I entered the
password, this appeared on the next line and then the root prompt
appeared.

(Mandrake 8.1, initlevel 3, tty1)
