[LUG] Re: Cannot ./configure permission denied

I still cannot execute the script, same error. I can chown the Folder and files to whoever i like. but i cannot us chmod a=rwx *.* when i am in the folder or specifying the folder name when i am up one level in the directory. Both times i get the same error "operation not permitted". I also have another folder which i have the same problem with. i expect it's just something stupid but i cannot install either piece of software until i resolve this problem.
Can anyone suggest anything else?
How do i list the owner and permissions from a terminal as at the moment i am using the file manager.

Also if i start a su Konqueror i can tick the boxes but the permissions do not change??????
Thanks for your help
