Welcome back mate, I hope all is well with you T,D&H. to repair a broken
filesystem, boot from a rescue disk (you did make one right ?) or CD ;-)
without mounting the partitions fun fsck

$ fsck /dev/hda1         (or similar)

This is the Linux equivalent of scandisk, no better than that, Norton disk
doctor... no better than that.... erm....

Did you ever get those floppy drives to work ok ? hope what little help I
gave has been of use to you... ttfn
