A useful exercise if you are new to this, but, if you have installed mysql 
from the SuSE cd/dvd then you could use Yast2 -> System -> Runlevel Editor 
- -> Runlevel properties.  Select mysql and enable the service on the 
Set/reset button. If you don't want to reboot to get it started use the 
Start/stop/refresh button to actually start it.  I understand this 
actually works in 8.2 :-)
