[LUG] SMART drives

Hi,

Anyone know anything about 'SMART' disk drives? I have 2 Seagate drives and
the gigabyte motherboard (or rather the bios) has a 'SMART' detection
facility for disks. If I enable this then it says that the disks are
compliant and their status okay. Sounds good. I know that SMART is something
to do with the disks performing 'Self Monitoring and Reporting' (can't
remember what the T is - 'Technology'?), but I'd like a little more info
about what it is monitoring and are there any utils so I can display the
current 'SMART' status of the disks? I found very little about this at the
Seagate web site.

Thanks,

John.
