I had a chat with a hardware guy (gfx) some time ago*** and suggested this, 
the response was interesting, if they open source the hardware specs and make 
open source drivers possible, you'll have people who haven't signed NDA's 
having the inside skinny, and seeing as the gfx card market is largely based 
on hype anyway......

*** what was really interesting was a couple of days later the shit hit the 
fan about optimised drivers for benchmarks...
