I'm guessing from the 2wire website that you don't have to.

Try pointing your browser at the IP address of the 2wire router and see
if you can configure the router. (maybe http://192.168.0.1/ or whatever
the IP address is).

Be sure to add a route to your GNU/Linux box to use the router IP as
your default gateway.... You might want to configure the firewall first
- --- but if it is doing NAT you are probably safe enough.

Something like....
        route add default gw 192.168.0.1

If it worked figure out how to make it permanent.

You might check if the router is doing DHCP as well.
