Re: [LUG] EXCEL AND OPEN OFFICE

In which case why is the cell height greater than teh cell width, when
visually it's the other way round.

I'll stick to open office it uses cm and is much easier to get a simple 1cm2
grid.

| This is sligtly off topic but what the on earth does Excel measure cell
| dimentions in, I am aware the MS unit of mouse distance is called the
| mickey (or used to be), LOL.
| here goes
|
| On open office I can easily set the cell height / width to 1cm which i
| did to produce a tables square for work, however I tried this at the
| school using MS office and the cell height seemed to he
|
| 12.45 and the width seem to be 8. something, which is odd as the width
| is greater than the height. but the actual properties.
| any ideas open office is far easier to use in this respect, I worked it
| out by right clicking on the grey bit next the outer most cell and going
| for proerties. On expanation would be clicking on the side changes the
| width while clicking on the top changes the height, which just seems
| totally illogical, when the box comes up with the height or width there
| are no units. which is not exactly helpful. I could probably do it
| manually but it so easy in openoffice.org. right click column height /
width
|
| For the record.I tried it at home with excel, and gave up and did it
| quickly in openoffice.org, apart from Windows i have not used any
| office product since installing windows on my new computer, so I am
| weaning myself off MS office. This was a while back but now i have my
| own user account at the school (see later), I thought I would try it
out.
|
| This is NOT an attempt to bash MIcrosoft, more of an attempt to
| understand their way of doing things.
|
| Please have sympthy, I now have my own user login at the school. I can
| login to the class computer running XP pro on an AMD 400, with less than
| 128mb of memory, (shared with graphics i think), the computer has a
| whopping 4gb harddisk with less than about 30mb free space, hence it's
| like er slooooooow. aaggghhhhh.
|
| I don't use it that much i just logged in for the first time the other
| day to check it actually works ok and to try the above the IT teacher
| just gave me an account which is there if i need it, this is good as I
| can get access to my website and download stuff if needed, or perhaps we
|
| One nice thing is the interactive smart boards are really cool if you
| ever get the chance to have a play with one.

|
| PS still trying to fix debian, I need to edit my lilo.conf file so it
| boots to windows by default until i get debian fixed, (or rather fix the
| mess i made of the install), yep we need to blame user inexperience
| here. no further comment,
|
| I got vi installed so am currently looking for the manual that says how
| to save documents, i can exit ok :q
