Thanks for the advice guys. I'm currently running the links from:
       https://gna.org/projects/eagleusb/
through Google's Translator. There's an article there which describes
how to use the Mandrake supplied driver, but it closely describes what I
tried last time and it didn't seem to work.

For some reason all fast800.tuxfamily.org websites are out of action,
but apparently it's only temporary.

If I have any luck with this I'll let you know.
