I maybe missing the point of this thread completely, but perhaps webmin is a
solution for a medium sized operation. It reportedly allows remote admin
from a web browser that includes cluster support, HeartBeat / Failovers and
RPM / DEB patch rollout features see: http://www.webmin.com/standard.html .
There maybe some security issues but I think its worth a look.
