Shouldn't application level filtering be done by the actual application?

I can't quite amazed to see people expecting a firewall to do this. I
should get my firewall to also make my tea.

Anyway... XML is security problem prone. Huge or strangely formed XML
can crack up parsers, and waste a lot of resources.
