Oh the LUG master list has noted that the Software Patent directive has
been withdrawn.

This happens when a directive is too controversial, or has too many
amendments proposed, although I fear we'll see similar proposals soon
enough, as there is big money behind extending private monopolies (ask
the Water companies).
