Spot the elementary mistake in choice of mail client ;-)

Outlook/OE allows you to configure IMAP delete behaviour I believe.

Mozilla certainly does, and I really couldn't encourage you to use a
piece of software like Outlook with such an appalling security record.

OE's IMAP4 support was a bit wonky in my experience.

That is a University of Washington IMAP daemon I believe. The manual is
at the University of Washington website last time I needed it.
