I wasn't actively "using" anything to make it work, I just stuck it in and it 
worked!  ;-)  Despite not being on the supported cards list...

Ahh, thanks, that looks like you've hit the nail on the head, there.  "lsmod" 
does indeed list the "8139too" module as being loaded and being used by 
"mii".  Additionally, "yenta_socket" is loaded.

So I have to recompile my kernel?  Yikes, that sounds scary!

How do I go about that, armed only with a pen, a peice of paper, a laptop, a 
desktop with a (modem) internet connection, a Debian 3.0 CD1 and some string?  
Your answer is allowed to include the anacronym "RTFM", as long as you 
include the relevant web address! ;-)
