Perchance the lilo entry is pointing to the wrong partition /wrong drive 
or the location of the boot directory is unabtainable by lilo for 
example an extended partition beyond the 1024 cylinder,or lilo is just 
not been written to the MBR correctly.What type of 
partitioning/filesystem scheme have you plumbed for?
