Arghhghg! Did anyone else in Plymouth just loose power? ~ Theo, swearing lots at loosing some work
That's why I got a simple UPS. Mega-heavy but only 30quid from PCWorld. Both the workstation and the server are powered for as much as 30 minutes with no interruption. I just get a squealing alarm from upstairs. The other machine is a laptop, so providing the battery is not completely flat, the whole network stays on. The only thing that isn't UPS powered is the external modem, so I might disappear offline, but I've always got long enough to safely shutdown all machines on the network if necessary. Power-cuts in Plymouth are 4 a penny. At one stage, I was noticing as many as 6 per month - anything from 2 seconds to 20 minutes. - -- Neil Williams ========== www.codehelp.co.uk www.dclug.org.uk -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE9Rtvlk7DVr6iX/QIRAkiIAJ46rS7kDp5+GsVTjw/J+zcBa5dEpgCeIUnL pEaOI9H4Smy0S0muEPCVDK4= =b/qj -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG Mail majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxx with "unsubscribe list" in the message body to unsubscribe.
