I disagree here on perspective, most of the best turnkey
solutions I have seen have been built on Linux, but I agree in
as much as the basic distro's are not what most people need,
there is plenty of scope to build turnkey solutions.

Now I'd love to get involved in creating a 'generic' turnkey Linux
configuration or sub-distro aimed squarely at the needs of schools.

The solution is not to employ idiots,
but that is the hardest thing of all to do.

Ah yes, but we are talking schools here  ...strictly higherarchical
...seniority based on length-of-service rather than merit   ...secure job
for life, provided of course you don't sleep with a pupil   ...if your
school fails we'll simply throw more money at it, or better still re-clasify
failure as 'normal'...

Yes there are many great teachers out there, however in my experience the
higher they climb the management higherarch the more idiotic they seem to
get!
