Perhaps we need another meeting again Debian bias to introduce the basics, and then go through, then subsequent meetings to cover more advanced stuff. I think it would be help to many on this list, I use Suse, however a knowledge on how to install debian would be useful. If it helps I now have a copy of woody here, If we are going to look at a specific distro the one we decide to use should be closest to our philosophy for free software. I am sure we can use the rugby club again, however I would prefer another venue, preferably during the daytime.
The one thing with Debian is that you can only realistically install the base system at a meeting unless you have a fast internet connection. That's why Simon created a Debian mirror for the Debian masterclass - it requires a large amount of space and cannot be replicated as a stack of DVD's! The absolute minimum for a Debian install meeting has to be broadband. I wish I could have got to the last meeting, it would have been fun to have a really large, fast, connection. Broadband is fine at home, but when you're installing on multiple boxes, one broadband connection will quickly be saturated. What might work for a non-ISP location is a meeting with a standard broadband connection where everyone who wants to install Debian, installs the base system at home AND does the apt-get update apt-get upgrade routine BEFORE attending. Then the connection is for smaller numbers of packages and configuration. Otherwise, most people will spend the entire meeting watching apt download the packages. -- Neil Williams ============= http://www.codehelp.co.uk/ http://www.dclug.org.uk/ http://www.isbn.org.uk/ http://sourceforge.net/projects/isbnsearch/ http://www.biglumber.com/x/web?qs=0x8801094A28BCB3E3
