Unfortnately,if you look at the code, you will see it is not a simple conversion. :-( so I don't see that any of those are going to help me.

If you can get 51.1234 to convert to 844c7e5c then you are better than me, I can't see any perl module that does that and I did look.
I said my maths weren't good
