Hi, it looks as if I spoke too soon when rejoycing about connecting from a terminal 
in Debian...turns out the machine`s not really connecting. It does all the stuff to 
make it look like it is, blinking modem lights etc but from looking with "tail -f 
/var/log/messages" the connection apparently has >no devices clear to call out on<. 
Back to the drawing board.
          The list is quiet today...where are you all?.....J
