My clients have mixed systems but that's not really relevant as monitoring software doesn't care which webserver your are running, it merely keeps checking that port 80 responded and the same for mail servers, ftp etc etc.

Surely this would depend on the systems being monitored?  I am presuming that the web-servers (and etc) are Linux machines, but what routers are being used?
